Science & Technology Building

East Carolina University

Location: Greenville, NC
Budget: $48 million
Size: 260,000 sf
Year Completed: 2001

The Science and Technology Building is the largest project ever built on East Carolina’s Central Campus. The project consists of two building wings and a connector totaling 260,000 square feet. The Classroom Wing to the north is a three story structure with two levels of lecture halls above a central utility plant. The Science and Information Technology (SIT) Wing to the south is five stories of laboratory and office space with a sixth level mechanical penthouse. Both buildings are framed with reinforced concrete beams and skip joists; concrete columns are founded on groups of steel H-piles. The roofs over the Classroom Building, SIT Building penthouse and the connector are framed with structural steel. The project also includes a stand-alone reinforced concrete cooling tower structure for six towers associated with the central plant.
