Barwell Road Elementary School accommodates 800 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. The school is built following a two-story prototype design adopted by Wake County Public Schools. In addition to the 100,000 sf school, there is a 40,473 sf community center connected by a hallway. Both buildings have a structural steel framing system and spread concrete footings. The community center includes 2 full-size gyms and community classrooms, with exposed structural steel framing at the entry canopy and long span trusses over the gymnasiums.
